Stockport’s Youth Council is called SKYouth – It supports a network of local and issue based Youth Forums across Stockport we currently work with over 17 youth forums and have over 120 members.  SKYouth also provides leadership opportunities for young people on the Young People’s Select Committee and the Young People’s Executive Committee where – these groups link direct to key decision makers in Stockport including local councillors and senior managers in the services that affect young people most.  We also support young people to get involved in regional and national opportunities like Youthforia (the North West Youth Forum and UK Youth Parliament)

There are lots of benefits to joining a youth forum:

• the chance to have your say
• the opportunity to make a difference
• the chance to get free training in key skills

(communication/team work/political skills and lots more)

• opportunities to get involved in exciting projects
• the chance to meet new people and socialise

 Some of the things youth forum members have been involved in recently include:

• Making presentations at Council meetings
• Deciding how money for youth activities should be spent
• Interviewing new Council staff
• Running successful campaigns for new park facilities (an outdoor gym and a BMX track)

Most youth forums run every week or every other week after school or in the evening.
